2008-2009 Tuition Assistance Scholarship Opportunities
These scholarships are made available through the generosity of WLHS families and friends.

Each scholarship will be awarded based on
financial need first, then other specified criteria.

All completed application forms and supporting financial documentation,
essays, etc. are due in the WLHS Central Office by
April 15, 2008.

(Decisions will be mailed to all applicants after  May 15, 2008.)

The Robert Andreas Memorial Scholarship ($3,000)

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior for the 2008-2009 school year

  • Have a financial need

  • Student must be from a single-parent home

  • Write a 250-word essay entitled "Why I Want a Christian High School Education"

The Esther Fintak, Alice Husz, & Edward Koslosky Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior for the 2008-2009 school year

  • Have a financial need

  • Member of a WLHS Conference congregation

  • Minimum GPA 3.0

  • Write a 250-word essay entitled "On the Outside -- How I Will Use My WLHS Education in the Future"

  • Involved in a school-sponsored extracurricular activity

  • Involved in an extracurricular faith-based organization and/or activity (church youth group, Young Life, faith-based volunteer program, etc.)

  • Intend to go to college or continue education after high school

  • Write a 250-word essay entitled "Three Things I Want to Do and/or Experience in My Lifetime"

Writing Guidelines for Essays:

  • Typed

  • Single spaced

  • Formal writing
    - Organized
    - Complete thoughts, complete sentences
    - Formal grammar and mechanics
    - Remember, you are applying for a scholarship; you are not emailing or instant messaging a friend!

  • Answer the question
    - Focus on the topic
    - Be personal (The question is about you – the response should be about you.)
    - Choose your words carefully – adhere to the word limit criteria

  • Proofread/Edit/Revise

Writing Guidlines for Personal Mission Statements

  • Follow the essay-writing guidelines (listed above)

  • Include
     - What/how you wish to accomplish and contribute to your goal
     - The character strengths and personal qualities you wish to develop as you strive to reach 
        your goal

  • For this scholarship application, your personal mission statement should be a complete paragraph rather than a simple, one-sentence statement.
