AP English Literature provides a more challenging course for gifted literature students. The course promotes critical reading, the habit of reading with discernment, and an awareness of larger contexts and deeper implications. Students will study the forms, modes, and traditions of literature from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. There will be a substantial amount of in-depth reading, and students will be required to write with insight, clarity, and logic. Students may choose to take the Advanced Placement exam in English Literature at the conclusion of the year. Open to grade 11 and 12 with Department consent. Students in this course are not required to take quarter literature courses, but may if they so desire.
Pre-req: GPA > 3.800 in English, math, and science
     
AP English Composition (0290) 12 .5

AP English Composition is the capstone composition class for talented writers. It is intended to provide a forum for learning about logic, analyzing and evaluating arguments, and the use of statistical evidence and rhetoric in composition. Contemporary issues are addressed throughout the semester. In addition, some examples of fiction and nonfiction will be analyzed. Students in this course may choose to take the Advanced Placement exam in English Composition at the conclusion of the year. Open to Grade 12 with Department consent. This course is an alternate to Advanced Composition.
Pre-req: American Literature.

     
AP Chemistry (0340) 12 1

This Course is designed to be the equivalent to the general chemistry course usually taken during the first college year. The course will teach the fundamentals and competence in dealing with chemical problems. In addition, the course will contribute to the development of students' abilities to think clearly and express their ideas, orally and in writing, with clarity and logic. Students will be expected to spend some time outside of the regular class period in laboratory activities.
Pre-req: Successful completion of Advanced Chemistry and consent of instructor

     
AP Biology (0325) 11,12 1

This course is designed for students who have special interests and abilities in the life sciences. The course is designed to help students understand, explain, analyze and interpret biological processes that God uses to sustain His living creation. Students will be expected to spend some time outside of the regular class period in laboratory activities. Students are also encouraged to take the Advanced Placement exam in Biology.
Pre-req: Successful completion of Chemistry or Advanced Chemistry and consent of the instructor

     
AP Calculus AB (0448) 12 1

A study of first year Calculus following the AP curriculum. Major topics include: limits, differentiation, integration, and series. Successful completion of the course will allow students to take the Advanced Placement exam for Calculus AB.
Pre-req: Successful completion of Pre-Calculus or Pre-Calculus A

     
AP U.S. History (0530) 11,12 1

AP U.S. History is a full year elective course designed for the highly-motivated and academically gifted student. It involves an in-depth study of United States history, providing opportunity for research, writing, and discussions about history. This fulfills the WLHS graduation requirement in place of American History. Students in this course may choose to take the Advanced Placement exam in U.S. History at the conclusion of the year.

AP Psychology (0541) 11,12 .5

AP Psychology is a one-semester, elective course for juniors and seniors. It provides students with an understanding of psychology as a developing field of study; insight concerning human development, thought, and behavior; and appropriate applications in the modern life of Christians. Students who complete the course will have the option of taking the Advanced Placement exam in Psychology.
