This one-semester course is a study in drawing and appreciating art. Students will learn to see as an artist sees, draw people, scenes, and still life realistically, and study the work of several great artists through audiovisual aids.

Drawing and Sketching 1 (1030) 9,10,11,12 .5
This course is open to any student who has successfully completed Exploratory Drawing/Sketching.  It will expand on Exploratory Drawing/Sketching topics, and explore new drawing skills. This course is non-sequential with Painting.

Painting (1013) 10,11,12 1
This two-semester course, for those students who have completed Exploratory Drawing/Sketching, involves the development of skills in seeing and acquiring the techniques of painting. The student will paint with watercolors, tempera, acrylics, and oils. Subject matter will include landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and abstractions.

Exploratory Art: Ceramics/ Mixed Media (1002) 9,10,11,12 .5
This one-semester course includes a unit of ceramics and a unit of mixed media. The ceramics class includes hand building and decorating of pottery. In mixed media, students work with markers, tempera, and other materials. Emphasis is on the fundamentals of design and color.

Ceramics 1 (1023) 10,11,12 1
This one-year course, open to students who have completed Exploratory Ceramics/Mixed Media, develops a working knowledge of clay and the methods used to build with the material. This is done by teaching the basic hand building techniques and encouraging the use of imagination in problem solving. Students also use the potter's wheel as a method of developing ceramic art work.

Advanced Ceramics (1026) 11,12 1

This one-year course is open to students who have successfully completed Advanced Ceramics. Students will have the opportunity to choose an emphasis (hand-building or the potter’s wheel) and develop advanced skills through personal instruction. Students planning to major in art or attend art school will be encouraged to create pieces for an art portfolio.

Advanced Ceramics 2 (1028)  12  1

This one-year course is open to students who have successfully completed Advanced Ceramics. Students will have the opportunity to choose an emphasis (hand-building or the potter’s wheel) and develop advanced skills through personal instruction. Students planning to major in art or attend art school will be encouraged to create pieces for an art portfolio.
Pre-req: Successful completion of Advanced Ceramics
