A one-semester course designed for the inexperienced cook. It will provide hands-on experiences in food preparation, safety and sanitary cooking procedures. Students will gain an understanding of ingredients and their functions while preparing typical breakfast and lunch menus.

Meal Management (0902) 9,10,11,12 .5
A one-semester course designed for the cook with experience in planning, preparing and serving healthy meals (see Food Techniques). More advanced food preparation techniques will be applied with emphasis on planning and timing of meals. Included are skills in meat, poultry, homemade desserts and breads, and other foods characteristic of dinner meals. You will have one or two lab periods for this class each week during your study hall or commons period. This course is recommended for anyone thinking about a career in a foods-related area.

Hospitality Foods (0903) 10,11,12 .5
A one-semester course designed for the experienced cook. It will provide an extensive study of planning, preparing and presenting foods as they relate to entertaining guests in your home. Units will include appetizers, cake decorating, candy making and garnishing. This course is recommended for anyone thinking about a career in a foods-related area. You will have one or two lab periods for this class each week during your study hall or commons period.

World Wide Cuisine (0904) 10,11,12 .5
A one-semester course designed for the experienced cook who wants to learn the background and origins of foods from around the world. It will include a study of cultures and unique methods of food preparation worldwide, as well as regions of the United States.

Fashion Techniques 1 (0911) 9,10,11,12 .5

A one-semester introductory course of sewing for students with little or no previous experience. After learning to use the sewing machine for basic sewing projects, the student chooses other projects to further advance their sewing skills. Students provide their own sewing supplies.

Fashion Techniques 2 (0913) 9,10,11,12 .5

A one-semester course for students with previous clothing construction experience. Students choose projects which may include clothing, sewing for the home, quilting, craft sewing, and possibly knitting and crocheting skills. Students provide their own sewing supplies.

Family Living (0931) 11,12 .5

This one-semester course is open to all juniors and seniors who are interested in preparing for a smooth transition from young adulthood to independent living, marriage and family. Topics covered include budgeting, credit and checking accounts, apartment rental and insurance. This course covers the Christian principles of dating, single living, wedding planning, and the family life cycle.

Child Development (0932) 11,12 .5
This one-semester course is offered to all juniors and seniors who wish to learn more about caring for children from conception through age 5 and their growth and development. They learn about pregnancy and the birthing process. Students must spend one day at a day care center to put into practice things learned in class and work directly with small children.

Housing and Interior Design (0933) 11,12 .5

A one-semester course for juniors and seniors. Students will plan for their first apartment or house, choose the interior design and furnishings, and learn how to make a house a home. The culminating project is a portfolio of a complete room design. This course is recommended for anyone interested in a career in interior design or decorating.
