Samantha Xu (junior from Beijing, China) talks about Our Funky Family Christmas Party in her own words. . .

"Christmas is the most famous festival of the United States. It is important as the Spring Festival in Chinese culture. People are waiting the coming of new year at New Year’s Eve in China. In America, people are expecting the movement of born of our Savior, Jesus. To remember this special and necessary festival, we went outside and held a Christmas party with snowing on December 12 this year.

We got on the carriage [sleigh] in order after we arrived. The carriage moved slowly with bells’ sound. The moonlight lighted the silver snowground in the silent forest. Sometimes, it had some colorful lights over our head on the branches. This let us to enjoy the beautiful snow view and not forget the happiness with the festival at the same time. After we finished viewing snow forest on the carriage, everyone picked a “white elephant” gift randomly in a warm wooden house. The “white elephant” gift is a useless gift which only making some fun during the party. Such as a spider model without legs, a bean sprout, a sock with a hole and so on. Everyone will prepare a  “white elephant” before the party and have fun when each of them was opened by a student.

This is my first time to enter this kind of activity. This is really amusing. It is not just give someone a gift or make a christmas tree. It also a way to fear and thank our God. All in all, everyone has a wonderful memory by this real cultural Christmas party. Happy Christmas!"
