Looking forward . . .
From Pastor James Kleist, WLHS
Superintendent
How are
you doing on those New Year’s resolutions you made at the beginning
of the year?
Ouch!
Before we tackle that subject, I invite you to take a few moments to
look back on 2007, and all the blessings that the Lord bestowed on
you. What comes to mind? Your faith? Your family? Your health?
Perhaps fond memories of a relaxing vacation last year? I hope that
you also included Wisconsin Lutheran High School on your list of
blessings. It certainly is on mine!
As I look back on 2007,
-
I see
a high school blessed with a diverse student body of over 860
young people, eager for knowledge that will equip them for success
in our temporal world, and yet seeking the greater knowledge that
will help them grow in the Word.
-
I see
a dedicated, experienced staff of over 100 Christian men and women
who daily model their love for our Lord. Teachers who
painstakingly prepare lesson plans, administrators who plan and
organize for today and beyond, and support staff who keep the
campus humming.
God has
richly blessed our ministry here at WLHS!
But a
new year is also a time for looking forward.
It is an opportunity for new beginnings, for ‘starting over’, for
resolutions. I’m sure you made New Year’s resolutions in the past.
Perhaps to lose a few pounds, to read books instead of watching so
much TV, and to get more exercise.
May I suggest adding one more resolution
towards the top? Please consider a gift to support the
ministry of Wisconsin Lutheran High School. Your gift of $50, $250,
$500, $750, or more will
make a difference in the life of a WLHS student. Your gift toward
tuition assistance will help a student – who otherwise could not
afford to attend WLHS – receive a Christ-centered secondary
education.
Your generous gifts in the past have allowed me to continue to
provide for youth in the greater Milwaukee area. I thank God for
you and your support.
Through WLHS, you provide hope for many students:
-
hope
for a solid education that prepares them for college or technical
school
-
hope
for moral and ethical principles that will guide them throughout
their lives
-
hope
for spiritual grounding that enables them to walk closer to our
Lord.
In order
to continue this ministry of sharing Jesus and God’s Word to
Milwaukee area youth, we need your help.
Current tuition levels do not cover 100% of
the cost of educating a student. The WLHS Board works
hard to limit tuition in order to make the opportunity of attending
WLHS as affordable as possible. This year, the tuition for a WLHS
Conference student is $5,900. However, the actual cost of educating
a student is $8,466. This means that I need additional financial
support of $2,566 for every student.
Some would see this only as a huge problem. I see it as a
challenge, a problem that can be resolved.
The Oxford American College
Dictionary defines
‘resolution’ as “a firm decision to do or not to do
something,” as well as “the act of solving a problem.”
I am asking you to help me solve a problem,
right now, by making a resolution, a firm resolution, to
support Wisconsin Lutheran High School with your gift. A
gift of $50 will educate one student for one day; a gift of $250
provides a week of life-changing experiences for a young person.
And my
resolution for 2008? To continue to support this ministry to young
people at WLHS, always with the purpose
of glorifying God and equipping our students for lives of Christian
service.
In His Service,

Pastor Jim Kleist, Superintendent (’68)
Wisconsin Lutheran High School
