Disciplinary Program

Disciplinary Procedures

Christians admonish those who sin in order to lead them to repentance and a life which glorifies their Lord. Our disciplinary program has the same purpose. The Law and the Gospel are the means through which we carry out our discipline. When inappropriate behavior is identified, efforts are made to bring the student to an awareness of his/her sin and repentance of that sin. When that is achieved, the student is once again assured of God's love and forgiveness. The student will bear appropriate consequences as a result of his/her behavior.
Varying degrees of disciplinary actions may be taken depending upon the nature and severity of the misconduct. WLHS reserves the right to contact parents, the pastor, and civil authorities and to discontinue the student's attendance depending upon the nature and severity of the offense.
Disciplinary action will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Parent contact: Wisconsin Lutheran seeks to teach students they are responsible for their own behavior. Parents, however, are ultimately responsible for the conduct of their children and will be contacted whenever deemed necessary.
  • Regular Detention: Regular detentions are served from 3:05-3:45 on the day after the student has been notified. Students should not expect to be excused from detentions because of employment or co-curriculars. Students who miss a detention are assigned an additional detention. Students who miss an assigned detention for the second time will automatically receive a Saturday detention. Students are to be prompt in arriving to and remain quiet during regular detention hall. They may bring study materials to regular detention hall. Students with early outs are not exempt from detentions.
  • Saturday Detention: Saturday detention hall is designed for students involved in more serious offenses or who consistently violate a specific school policy, such as repeated tardiness. It will be held on Saturday mornings from 8:00-10:00 a.m. Students will be assigned to a Saturday detention the week following their offense so that they have time to make arrangements with employers. Students who miss Saturday detention without a valid excuse will automatically be suspended from school the following Monday and assigned to the next Saturday detention hall. A letter will be mailed to parents informing them of the Saturday detention assignment within twenty-four hours of the detention assignment.
  • Disciplinary probation: Students may be placed on probation for a quarter or a semester. Failure to comply with the probationary terms will result in removal from school.
  • Referral to civil authorities: Violators of state and municipal laws-including disorderly conduct (abusive, indecent, profane, boisterous, or unreasonably loud conduct that provokes a disturbance) may be referred to law enforcement officers.
  • Suspension: The purpose of a suspension is to remove the student from the school environment and to provide time for the professional staff, parents/guardian, and student to discuss the matter and bring about an agreement on future conduct. Suspension prohibits a student from attending classes for a period of 1-5 days in most situations. Absences from class due to suspension are recorded as excused absences. Students who are suspended will receive assignments and will be expected to complete all work missed because of the suspension.
  • Expulsion: The administration reserves the right to dismiss a student who disrupts the learning environment or threatens the safety of students or staff.
  • Tobacco, alcohol and other drugs: Students who use tobacco products or students who possess and/or use alcohol or other illegal drugs at school, on school grounds, on premises within one block of school grounds, or at school-sponsored events either home or away will be suspended and may be expelled. Students who sell or distribute alcohol or other illegal drugs are subject to expulsion.
  • Weapons: The administration reserves the right to expel a student who brings any type of authentic or replica-style handgun, knife, or other weapon on to the school premises.

Public Display of Affection

Wholesome and God-pleasing relationships among our students are encouraged. The school is neither the time or the place for public displays of affection. Students will be counseled if problems arise, and parents will be informed if inappropriate behavior persists.

Corridor Conduct

Students are to conduct themselves in an orderly manner in the corridors, refraining from such things as yelling, littering, or any other disruptive form of behavior. Students are not to eat food or drink beverages in the halls before or after school as well as during school hours. Glass containers should not be brought into school.

Cafeteria/Lunch Room Conduct

The cafeteria will be opened at 7:15 a.m. for students to study. When the cafeteria is being used as a Student Commons, students may utilize the vending machines. It is the students’ responsibility to conduct themselves in an orderly manner in the Commons. During the lunch periods students should keep their areas clean, return their trays and dishes to the kitchen area, not sit on tables, and conduct themselves in an orderly manner. Throwing of food or other disruptive behavior may result in suspension. During warmer weather students may eat lunches in the school courtyard only. The only area of the building students may enter during the lunch period, aside from the cafeteria, are the lobby areas. Students are not allowed in the classroom hallways. They may, however, go to the Business Office or Attendance Office on business.

Pregnancy

In consideration of the well-being of the student in particular and student body in general, the development of the pregnancy and other pertinent factors, the administration--after consultation with the student, parents, and pastor--will make a decision regarding the continuation of enrollment. If enrollment is continued, the privilege of participation in all school-related activities where the general public is present will be denied for the remainder of the school year. If the student is not a member of the senior class, he/she may apply to the administration for readmittance to those school-related activities where the general public is present at the beginning of the next school year. The administration will determine if readmittance will be allowed. The student will be allowed to participate in the graduation service. However, the administration may restrict a student from participating in the service if the student exhibits an unrepentant or rebellious attitude at some time during the pregnancy or if the student's physical well-being may be at risk.
