Biology Greenhouse Bounty

As part of their study of plants, Biology students Deanna Campbell and Kendall Lenoire grew a 7-foot 4-inch sunflower plant using only a two-liter bottle, water, and a soil substitute called vermiculite. Students planted seeds in February and tracked the growth and development of their plants for almost three months, keeping track of leaf characteristics, water consumption, and the effect of fertilizer on plant growth. Other students grew radishes, turnips, spinach, and carrots. Some even taste-tested their vegetables when they were ready. Deanna and Kendall's sunflower plant grew so tall, it was moved to the greenhouse for better growing conditions.
