What job is consistently rated as one of the top jobs in the US and requires a love for math? Answer: Actuary
Many people, including students, have no idea who an actuary is and what they do on a daily basis, which essentially is assessing risk. Earlier this month, Mr. Gottschalk, math department chair, chaperoned six students to the Northwestern Mutual downtown campus for their annual actuarial workshop. The workshop provided students with first hand information about being an actuary. One of the breakout sessions involved a simulation game where students were able to experience the types of problems and decisions actuaries face everyday. The workshop provided a wonderful opportunity for students to identify another career in which they may be able to use God's great gift of mathematics in the real world.
