This week, WLHS celebrates National Youth Apprenticeship Week, highlighting the powerful impact of hands-on, career-focused learning. Through partnerships with local businesses and integration within the WLHS curriculum, youth apprenticeship opportunities allow students to gain real-world experience while exploring potential career paths.
Currently, 19 Wisco seniors are participating in youth apprenticeships across a wide range of fields, including nursing assistant, architecture and construction, education, pharmacy technician, professional sales, and manufacturing.
These experiences often serve as a capstone to a student’s journey through our Career Pathways Catalog, equipping them with valuable skills, certifications, and confidence for life after high school.
One example of this impact is Alexis Bauer ('26), who works at Alfa Flowers as part of her apprenticeship. This spring, she had the opportunity to design and present a floral piece at the Milwaukee Art Museum’s Art in Bloom event—showcasing her talents on a major stage while connecting with visitors from across the country. Alexis plans to attend Wisconsin Lutheran College this fall to study business, with the goal of one day owning her own flower shop.
