Journal Sentinel Names Baseball & Softball Teams of the Week

It was a tremendous week for Wisco athletics as both the WLHS baseball and softball teams were recognized by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as Teams of the Week following dominant performances and continued success heading into postseason play.
The Vikings baseball team earned the honor after sweeping five games during the week, highlighted by a 1-0 victory over Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic and tournament wins over Kettle Moraine Lutheran and Fox Valley Lutheran. Sophomore pitcher Colton Meier threw a complete game shutout with eight strikeouts against St. Joe’s, while standout offensive performances came from Tyson Walz ('28), Carter Fry ('27), Cooper Sievert ('27), and Eli Dreier ('27). The Vikings are currently ranked #7 in the Milwaukee area and are projected to earn the top seed in their sectional for the WIAA playoffs.

The WLHS softball team continued its outstanding season by extending its winning streak to 16 games and capturing the final Journal Sentinel Team of the Week honor for the 2026 season. The Vikings went 5-0 during the week and outscored opponents by an impressive 54-5 margin. Their success has come through a powerful combination of explosive offense and dominant pitching.

Offensively, Wisco is batting .382 as a team, with six regular starters hitting above .350. Zhana Guenther ('27) leads the way with a remarkable .530 batting average, 35 hits, and seven home runs, while Maresa Grudzielanek ('27) has added seven home runs, 39 RBIs, and 11 extra-base hits. In the circle, Sidney Schroeder ('27) and Sydnee Braatz ('27) have combined for 169 strikeouts while allowing just 37 runs all season. The Vikings are currently ranked #3 in the Milwaukee area and earned the #1 seed in their sectional as they prepare for the postseason.
