Annual Civil Rights Trip

Though canceled last March due to COVID-19, the WLHS Civil Rights Tour resumed this spring. Following a period of quarantine and testing, 24 students and their chaperones traveled south from March 31–April 5. Their itinerary marked sites significant to the American Civil Rights Movement including the Atlanta History Center, Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, AL, Rosa Parks Museum, and iconic sites associated with Dr, Martin Luther King, Jr. Students also engaged in guided discussions about what they saw and race relations then and now in addition to recording their reflections in journal entries. Without exception, students refer to this experience as one that creates significant personal growth.
