Two Viking wrestlers made history on Saturday, January 29. Olivia Ramirez ('23) and Audreyanna Scott ('22) competed at the first-ever WIAA Girls State Wrestling Tournament in La Crosse. Audreyanna shared that her grandfather was also a wrestler. "I was told girls don't wrestle, so that made me want to try it," she shares. "It was really exciting to be a part of this historical, all-girls state wrestling tournament. I'm proof that wrestling is not just for boys." As a senior, this was the very first time Scott had ever tried wrestling.
Scott, competing at 165, went 2-2 and Ramirez, competing at 126, went 3-2 for the tournament. Both finished just short of placing in the consolation bracket. Full state results are available here. Congratulations to both athletes for contributing to this inaugural event.
