Baseball Bounces Back

One day after suffering a one-run, walk-off loss to Pewaukee, the Vikings returned to the WCTC diamond determined to change the outcome in Wednesday's series finale. Thanks to a patient offense and a resilient performance on the mound, Wisco did just that, topping the Pirates 6-4 and earning a split of the season series.

The Vikings struck first, coaxing four walks in the bottom of the 2nd and turning those into three runs thanks to a couple wild pitches and a timely double from Eddie Rynders. Pewaukee responded in the top of the 3rd however, taking advantage of two errors to plate four runs and take the lead. But Wisco would not back down. Jaxon Raabe drove in a run with an RBI groundout and Will Hotchkiss scored on a wild pitch to put the Vikings back on top 5-4, and Jake Ross made the lead stand up, hurling three scoreless frames after that. Ryder Derouin's RBI double in the 6th gave the team an insurance run and Lucas Oswald shut the door in the 7th to earn the save.

Ross earned the win on the mound, striking out 8 and allowing just 2 earned runs on 4 hits in 6 innings. Derouin went 2-3 at the plate and Hotchkiss and Carlos Walta each drew a pair of walks - part of 8 free passes the Vikings earned with their sharp eye in the batter's box.

The win evens the team's record at 1-1. Next up is a non-conference clash at Slinger on April 9.
