Errors Plague Softball in Loss to Rockets

The Wisco softball team took part in a wild, rain-soaked game on Wednesday afternoon at Rainbow Park, but unfortunately for the Vikings, the wet conditions contributed to some sloppy play. They fell 8-7 to South Milwaukee in a game that saw the hosts commit a costly six errors.

The Rockets struck first, scoring two unearned runs on a throwing error in the top of the 1st. Emily Buch had the answer in the bottom half, as her three-run home run to left gave Wisco a 3-2 advantage. South Milwaukee tied it up with a homer of their own in the 3rd, then took the lead on a single in the 4th. Another Rocket long ball in the 6th looked to put the game out of reach at 8-3, but the Vikings rallied in their final at bat. Sydney Vitangcol drove in a pair with a double, and Chloe Koschnitzke's RBI groundout narrowed the lead to 8-6. With Vitangcol at third and two out, Buch was intentionally walked. A wild pitch brought Vitangcol home to score, but the Rockets were able to throw Buch out advancing to end the game.

Vitangcol pitched all seven innings. Only two of the eight South Milwaukee runs scored on her were earned. She struck out 12 against just two walks.

The Vikings have a quick turnaround. They host Pewaukee at Rainbow Park on Thursday, April 21. First pitch is set for 4:30 PM.
