Racial Sensitivity Assembly

On Wednesday, April 27, WLHS held the last of our morning assembly series dedicated to topics relevant to the challenges and temptations our students face. This assembly focused on racial unity and sensitivity. Mr. Lewis Jiles, site director at the Garden Homes Campus of Lighthouse Youth Center, served as our keynote speaker. Mr. Jiles shared his own experiences with racial insensitivity, but also spoke of the rich blessings in his life and encouraged the assembly to drive change by initiating discussions about race even if that makes us uncomfortable. He closed by reminding all of us that the Word of God is the most powerful tool we have. In addition, six WLHS students from various backgrounds gave personal testimonies about race relations in their lives and encouraged students to make their voices heard by participating in co-curriculars where relationships are built around common interests.
