Warriors Walk Off With Marathon Victory

Saturday's softball clash between the Vikings and Lakeside Lutheran was everything that would be expected of a matchup of top-ten teams. The tightly played contest couldn't be settled in seven innings. In the end, #4 Lakeside got the better of #9 Wisco by a score of 3-2.

The Warriors struck first with an RBI single to center in the bottom of the 2nd. The Vikings answered back in the 3rd when Sydney Vitangcol doubled home Sofia Schroeder to tie the game. Neither team would score again for seven more innings. Wisco pushed across a run in the top of the 11th when Chloe Koschnitzke's double to right scored Vitangcol from first with the go-ahead score. But Lakeside responded with a two-out single to tie the game in the bottom half of the frame. After a scoreless 12th for Wisco, the Warriors led off with a double and sacrificed the runner to third. Vitangcol struck out the next batter and was on the verge of getting out of the jam, but a two-out wild pitch brought the runner in from third to end the game.

Vitangcol threw all 11.2 innings in the circle and struck out 20 batters while going 2-5 at the plate. Koschnitzke led the team with three hits and Schroeder and Emily Buch each singled twice.

Wisco will look to bounce back on Monday when they travel to Milwaukee Lutheran for a 4:30 PM game.
