Growth in Christian Leadership

Members of the WLHS Viking Christian Leaders Academy attended Wisconsin Lutheran College's second annual Leadership Academy Day on October 18. Students participated in breakout sessions on Leading Yourself, Leading Others, and Dealing with Failure. Some of the impactful takeaways from our students were:
  • "Some things were obvious, but I liked how they emphasized that we are in the position and capable of leadership, and God will bless us. Especially in Mr. Treske's speech, he talked about vocation vs calling. Our vocation in life is always to make disciples, our calling is the temporary position you have to use for your vocation. Keeping that mindset of purpose is crucial."
  • "I realized that everyone who is a leader today started at the grassroots level that I'm at right now. That thought gives me some encouragement to strive to become a better leader."
  • "I learned that sometimes it's okay to fail as long as you know how to handle it."
  • "I really enjoyed Dr Jensen’s presentation because it put me into real life situations that I find myself in often and gave me real practical ways to deal with issues when leading a group."
  • "Don't let the circumstances that you may go through change who you are."
  • "I like that they all strongly incorporate relying on God as part of leadership. When we rely on God our jobs as leaders are made a bit easier. I especially liked Mr. Trestle’s point when he said submitting ourselves to God frees us as leaders."
