Vikings Claim Third Consecutive Regional Championship

The Vikings combined their best shooting night of the season with a stifling defense to overwhelm Milwaukee Lutheran 81-32 and claim their third consecutive regional championship.

Wisco advances to sectional finals on Thursday, March 9, to face conference rival Pius XI. The game will be played at Whitefish Bay High School (1200 E. Fairmont Avenue, Whitefish Bay) at 7:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here. No passes and no cash will be accepted at the door.
Wisco knocked down four early three-pointers against the Red Knight zone defense and grabbed a 19-11 lead in the early going. A 13-1 Viking run fueled by nine transition points blew the game open. Jamiir Allen turned a steal into a three-point play and followed that up by draining a triple off of a Josh Knueppel theft. Kon Knueppel pushed a long rebound up to Josh for another long-distance connection to finish off the run.

Milwaukee Lutheran scored with 2:21 remaining in the half to make the score 42-20, Vikings. It would be their last basket for 10 minutes of game action. The Wisco defense held the visitors scoreless for the remainder of the half and the first eight minutes of the second half — 13 straight defensive stops. In the meantime, they ran off 21 points of their own to bring on the running clock for the game’s final nine minutes.

The Vikings shot 65% from the field and 48% from behind the arc for a season-best effective field goal percentage of 75.0%. They turned the ball over just four times all night while forcing 18 from the opponents. Kon Knueppel led all scorers with 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting; he added a team high 11 rebounds, six assists, and four blocks. Allen scored 17 points and had a pair of assists, and Landon Key knocked down five of his six three-point attempts to finish with 15 points, five assists, and a pair of blocked shots.
