Ten Things You Don't Really Need to Know About Mr. Duwe

Micah Ricke
Wisco's International Program has a new captain: Mr. Eric Duwe. He has compiled a list of ten things that you don't really need to know about him, but it's pretty interesting.

  1. Don’t be fooled by Mr. Duwe’s thin frame: this guy can eat! In 2004, Mr. Duwe got second place in a hamburger eating contest sponsored by Hardee’s. His prize? A six-month supply of Thickburgers from Hardee’s.

  2. Mr. Duwe gets international students because he has been one, too. In college he spent two terms studying in Costa Rica, and he did his entire Master’s program in Thailand.

  3. Do you enjoy playing Pokémon Go? So does Mr. Duwe! It brings him back to his days playing Pokémon on his old-school gray Game Boy with a monochrome screen.

  4. One summer, Mr. Duwe and his friends made digeridoos out of PVC piping. He doesn’t really have much talent for playing the digeridoo, though. Trombone, which he’s played since he was 10, is his musical instrument of choice.

  5. One of Mr. Duwe’s hobbies is running. He especially enjoys going on runs to get to know the Milwaukee Park system.

  6. Another thing Mr. Duwe enjoys doing is singing. He likes to sing in the church choir, but he also likes making up his own songs. Usually these songs are pretty bogus. His wife, Angie, gave him a book so he can keep track of the songs (bogus and non-bogus) that he has penned.

  7. Mr. Duwe grew up on a dairy farm in south central Wisconsin. His parents sold the cows back in 2000 but still grow corn and soybeans. The farm has been in the family for more than a generation (the basement of their house has “Duwe 1916” inscribed in it).

  8. Mr. Duwe doesn’t find much time to watch TV anymore. However, one TV show he still enjoys watching after all these years is Survivor. He likes the combination of wilderness living plus gameplay strategizing.

  9. If you know another language, teach Mr. Duwe some words he should know in it! He loves learning languages.

  10. Finally, Mr. Duwe feels very blessed to work at WLHS because his job combines three areas that he really values: education, cross-cultural relationships, and ministry!
