On Tuesday, October 2, Wisco student mentors introduced our new international students to the American tradition of pumpkin decorating. Students got creative with paints as they put their own spin on this favorite fall custom.
For WLHS students from China, Korea, and Vietnam, the Lunar New Year is a very important holiday time. WLHS celebrated the occasion with a party in the school cafeteria on Friday, February 16. WLHS students, faculty and staff, international host families, and other friends in the community gathered for a delicious Chinese dinner. Before the dinner, students worked hard to make delicious dumplings, and some students took turns describing their Lunar New Year holiday traditions for the crowd. After dinner, attendees enjoyed games, a photo booth, karaoke and a calligraphy station.
This semester we're blessed to have five new international students join our WLHS family. They come to us from East Asia and Japan. Despite the cold start to January, the students are warming up nicely to life in Wisconsin. WLHS held an orientation day for the new students on January 5, so they could get acquainted with the school building and the basics of how to get a successful start at our high school. The students' American mentors joined in the afternoon to introduce themselves, give the new students tips, and enjoy a city tour together.
