International Homestay Program

WLHS is looking for loving homestay families from the Wisco community to host international students!

The homestay program allows international students to immerse in an English-speaking environment, experience more of American family life and culture, and receive the support of parents and siblings in the home atmosphere. Homestay hosts care for students, provide essentials, and communicate regularly with the student's family abroad. There are both long-term and short-term hosting opportunities, and host families receive a stipend for the care and provisions they supply.

Long-Term Homestays

Long-term homestay families provide care for international students during the entire school year. Students often wish to live with an American family during the school year rather than reside in the dormitory because they want to discover what everyday American life is like, become more fluent in English, and experience the individualized support of a family environment.

Short-Term Homestays

During the holiday breaks, dormitory students are invited to stay with local families for a short period of time while the dormitory is closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring vacations. This is a valuable opportunity for students to observe American holiday traditions, form strong ties with local friends, and have a relaxing vacation away from the school and dormitory. These short-term homestay families help students have an unforgettable experience while they are far away from their own home on the holidays.

Sharing your home with an international student allows your family to grow closer together while learning about someone else's life and culture and while sharing your life and traditions. The many moments of togetherness are a blessing. We learn so much about the amazing world we live in and feel as if we have traveled to where they live. It is also a joy to see the student experience something for the first time.

You really build a relationship with the students. After learning about students, their families, customs, what they miss, what they love about in the U.S., it's hard not to form a special bond with them. We stay in contact with our students and it is amazing to see them blossom over time. After graduating, a few have even come back for summers or holidays since they feel comfortable with us. Everyone grows from this experience.
