Fine Arts

  • 2-D Studio Art

    NEW 2025-26  Students will create a 2-D portfolio or digital art portfolio consisting of a range of materials, processes, and ideas relating to a specific topic or theme based on their choosing. Portfolios will include the whole creation process including planning, process of creating a work of art, completing work of arts, and reflecting on finished products. Students will create a culminating written reflection based on their body of work to explain their thought-process and ideas. Students are encouraged to take this class if they are unable to meet AP requirements, want to refine their skills in a particular area of focus before completing the AP class, or want to continue in a study of arts that may not be offered in any advanced art classes.

  • A Cappella Choir

    A Cappella Choir is a year-long ensemble open to juniors and seniors. Entrance is by audition only. This choir emphasizes further development of vocal and choral techniques by preparing and performing medium to advanced sacred and secular literature. Choral music of various styles and periods in music history is selected for daily rehearsals. The choir performs in three WLHS choral concerts, chapel services, and at 6-8 Sunday worship services at WLHS federation congregations from October to May.

  • AP 2-D Art and Design

    Students will create a 2-D portfolio of work by engaging in an in-depth investigation guided by inquiry. They will use different materials and processes such as graphic design, photography, collage, printmaking, fashion illustration, collage, and others to narrate their ideas over the course of a year. Portfolios will include works of art and design, process documentation, and written information about the work presented; evaluation of submitted portfolios will be based on specific criteria, which include skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas and sustained investigation through practice, experimentation, and revision, guided by questions.

  • AP 3-D Art and Design

Portfolios will include works of art and design, process documentation, and written information about the work presented; evaluation of submitted portfolios will be based on specific criteria, which include skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas and sustained investigation through practice, experimentation, and revision, guided by questions.

  • Baritone Choir

    NEW 2025-26  This all-male choir is offered as a beginning experience in choral performance, focusing on the basic elements of music and singing. Students develop proper vocal technique and music reading skills through classroom activities. Choral music of various styles and periods in music history is selected for daily rehearsals, and mixed ensemble singing opportunities are included for concerts. The choir sings in three WLHS choral concerts, chapel services, and at 2-3 WLHS federation congregations from October to May.

  • Ceramics 1

    Ceramics 1 is for those students who have completed Introduction to 3-D Art & Design (formerly Exploratory Art: Ceramics/Mixed Media), and it involves the growing of the skills and techniques of Ceramics. It develops a working knowledge of clay and the methods used to build with the material. This includes a deeper investigation of basic hand-building techniques and encouraging the use of imagination in problem-solving. Students also use the potter’s wheel as a method of developing ceramic artwork.

  • Class Percussion

    Class Percussion will provide students with the opportunity to explore the vast world of music making through the use of percussion instruments. Students will experience daily hands-on learning opportunities.  Although there are no public performances outside of the school day, students will share their work with classmates to appreciate the blessings and challenges of live performance.  Prior percussion experience is not required. Prior percussion experience does not preclude students from taking this course.

  • Drawing

    This course is open to any student who has successfully completed Exploratory Drawing/Sketching  or Intro to 2-D Art. It will expand on Exploratory Drawing/Sketching topics, and explore new drawing skills. This course is a prerequisite for Painting 1.

  • Freshman Mixed Choir

Freshman Choir sings for three WLHS Choral concerts, chapel services, and at two-three area congregations for worship throughout the year.

  • Honors Band

    NEW 2025-26  This is an upper-level, performance-based course in band music with an emphasis on the development of students' God-given talents. An extended amount of attention will be given to personal growth in instrumental fundamentals, musicianship, and technique. During the school year, students continue their development of ensemble skills and are provided with exposure to wind band literature of the highest quality. The band performs increasingly challenging repertoire across three major concert performances and is actively involved in providing small ensembles for area churches, WLHS events, and the WSMA Solo & Ensemble Festival. Students will be given small group or individual lessons as the band director’s schedule permits. Admission into Honors Band requires an audition.

  • Introduction to 2-D Art and Design

    This course is a foundation class exploring a variety of 2-D materials and techniques used in drawing, painting, printmaking, and design art processes. Students will develop their ability to use elements and principles of design to create expressive qualities in their artwork. Students will explore composition and selection of subject matter. This is a general art class designed for all students and is mandatory for students who want to continue on with 2-D classes.

  • Introduction to 3-D Art and Design

    This one-semester course is a foundational class exploring materials and techniques used in ceramics and sculpture. The focus of this course is on creating 3-dimensional (3-D) works of art with clay but students will also explore other materials such as wire, cardboard, wood and natural materials. Students will develop their ability to use the elements of art and principles of design to create expressive artwork. This is a general art class designed for all students and is mandatory for students who want to continue on with 3-D classes.

  • Music Spectrum

    This class will introduce the elements of music through World Drumming, playing the piano and guitar, and I-Pad music technology. As a “learn by doing” class, students will explore the gift of music through exploration in all of the above areas in our new music classroom and keyboard lab. If you’ve always wondered how to read music and play popular instruments, this class is for you!

  • Video Production

    In Video Production, students will explore the world of moving pictures. Students will learn about the complexities of a video and how to use the technology that is available to shoot and edit quality video. Students will be working collaboratively to make quality videos that range from commercial shorts all the way to a short film. Throughout the class, students will shift in their roles from actor, director, editor, and grip. Even though the students will be encouraged to act, that will not be a requirement.
