Our school theme for the 2020-21 school year is “Rejoice in the Lord Always” from Philippians 4:4. Perhaps you are running into your share of commentators who are forecasting doom for our country right now. Looking to current events for a reason to rejoice is futile. By God’s grace we look instead to our relationship with Jesus Christ. Our faith in him allows us to retreat every day to the powerful truths that won’t change:
Our sins are forgiven in Christ.
We stand righteous before a Holy God
The Savior who died to make us righteous and the Holy Spirit will always be present.
We are new creatures with a fulfilling purpose in this life.
A place in heaven has been reserved for each of us.
This is but a partial list of reasons the Christian has to rejoice. If these truths were temporary or dependent upon us, or offered by an arbitrary God, we would indeed have reason to fret. But they won’t change, and so Paul is able to say in all sincerity that we can rejoice always. May our joy be evident.
