Softball Tops Lions in Season Opener

After a few false starts, the Wisco softball team finally got its season opener on Wednesday afternoon. The Vikings made sure it was worth the wait. Sydney Vitangcol struck out 16 and the offense rapped out nine hits en route to a 7-2 win over New Berlin Eisenhower at The Rock.

Wisco took advantage of two errors to plate a pair of runs in the first inning. An RBI double by Emily Buch and a run-scoring ground out by Eden Rader added two more runs in the top of the second. Chloe Koschnitzke brought in Rader with a single in the fifth, and Rader and Katie Meyer drove in runs in the top of the seventh to complete the Vikings' scoring.

Vitangcol made the runs stand up. She held Eisenhower hitless over the first 4.1 innings and allowed just two unearned runs on the day. The freshman limited the Lions to four hits in all and walked just one while fanning 16. Buch and Rader paced the offense, with each going 2-4 at the plate. Buch drove in one run while Rader plated a pair.

Next up for the Vikings is a clash with West Allis Central. They host the Bulldogs at Rainbow Park on April 7, with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 PM.
