Baseball Tops Pius

The Viking baseball team rode a strong performance on the mound to their second straight victory, a 5-1 triumph over Pius XI at The Rock.

Eddie Rynders set the tone by retiring the first 12 batters he faced. He hurled a strong 4.2 innings, allowing just one unearned run on one hit while striking out eight and not issuing any free passes. The offense wasted no time giving him all the support he would need. Lucas Oswald drove in Rynders and Logan Abramowski with a single to right in the top of the 1st to make it 2-0, Wisco. The Vikings added another run on a Pius error in the 2nd, extended the lead when Abramowski plated Jaxon Raabe in the 4th, and capped the scoring when Raabe drove in Oswald an inning later.

Abramowski was one of a trio of Vikings with multi-hit games. He went 2-3 with a walk and an RBI. Zach Adams was 2-3 with a run scored, and Oswald was 2-2 with a walk and also threw 2.1 scoreless innings in relief.

The Vikings face the Popes again at The Rock on April 13. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 PM, weather permitting.
