Wisco Student Production Assistant in Local TV Series
Sophomore Sydney Biebert has been honing her skills in video production. Over the summer and during her free time during the school year, Sydney assisted in the production of a tv series called “Show Me Milwaukee.” The show premieres on Thursday, November 3, with six episodes airing over the next couple of weeks on Thursdays through Very Local, a national free streaming platform owned by nationwide media company Hearst (which owns WISN in Milwaukee).
“It was a new experience for me, working with professionals in a professional setting,” Sydney says. “This was much different than a homework assignment — I knew that what I was doing was part of a much larger project.”
As a production assistant on set, Sydney ran cameras and gear, secured all the legal releases from the cast locations, helped with the editing, which included choosing music for the soundtrack, gathered feedback and made adjustments to the edit.
Sydney took a film course at Wisco which helped jumpstart her abilities to work professionally. "The skills I developed in video production class helped me advance my directing. When I started working on the tv show, I already had hands-on experience and felt confident to carry out specific details for my role."
The Very Local app is free to download on phones, Roku, and Amazon Fire. Click here for more information about "Show Me Milwaukee." In the series credits, Sydney will be listed as Production Assistant and Editor.
