Student Presents Prognostic Biomarkers in Cancer

Congratulations to Wisco student May Moe Thu Han ('24) whose research was recently published in The National High School Journal of Science. May Moe worked with a Cambridge PhD candidate to identify prognostic biomarkers in Glioblastoma (GBM) and other solid tumors. She analyzed cancer patient data to find two pairs of DNA repair genes that were associated with patient survival in GBM and other solid tumors.

"Last year, Student Services Counselor Mrs. Chavez had shared information about the Lumiere Research Scholar Program, open to any student," said May Moe. "I applied and was chosen to participate." Click here to read May Moe's research article.
Founded by Harvard and Oxford researchers, the Lumiere program matches high school students with top researchers to work 1-1 on an independent project. May Moe was able to analyze gene data all online and worked on the project from June to November 2023.
