On Monday, March 13, a group of WELS members in the Milwaukee area attended a special screening of the new Luther documentary "A Return to Grace: Luther's Life and Legacy," at the Marcus Majestic Cinema in Brookfield, WI. At this time, the film is only being shown in theaters in select cities around the United States, until the DVD is for sale through Northwestern Publishing House later this fall.
President Ken Fisher attended the showing and commented on how the movie is a great reminder of the legacy we've inherited from Martin Luther's struggle to find the answer to "How can I be good?"
"The film is an excellent blend of dramatic re-enactment with explanations from historians, theologians, and Luther scholars," says President Fisher. "Every statement that Luther speaks in the film is a direct quote from his writings. This film is not to be missed. We joked that it was a great date night for Lutherans, but actually, I was very encouraged that 137 people came out in a snow storm to see this film. It shows the passion our people have for understanding what a gift of grace we have in Christ which we re-discovered through the blessing of the Lutheran Reformation.
President Fisher says that he is looking forward to seeing it again and sharing it with family and friends who don't understand why the Reformation changed the world.
