Clara from South Korea

Clara (Class of 2024) from South Korea recently shared insights from her high school journey:
Why did you choose WLHS?
I was in a different school before I came here. The school was very small and they didn’t have a variety of classes or a lot of diversity. I wanted to explore more opportunities and meet people from around the world, and have more variety of classes. I had some options of other schools, but my friend encouraged me to come here because it’s a great school where the teachers truly care about you.

Describe a meaningful experience you have had while studying at WLHS:
I made a close connection with a host family that I stayed with during the Spring Break holiday. When I was staying at their house I would go to their church with them, pray and worship together, and also volunteer. During the summer when I was in South Korea, we still stayed in touch and shared pictures of our summers. This year they often invite me to come to their house, and also to go to church with them, and eat meals together.

What advice would you give to future students at WLHS?
Have an open mind! Don’t be afraid of trying new things and reach out for help when you need it. When I first came here, I was afraid to ask for help, but as I got older I changed my mind and realized it was not a big deal. Everyone needs help, so it’s okay to ask. For example, with classes, sometimes you won’t understand what the teacher says or what your friends say. At first I was afraid to ask, but I realized that when you ask they are actually very happy to help, and you learn a lot more from them.
