At present we will continue to run two exam days at the end of each semester. The first semester exam dates are December 21 & 22. The exam day schedule will run from 7:45 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. The first day, Periods 1-4 will meet for one hour each, and on the second day Periods 5-8 will meet for one hour each.
As we look ahead, please note the following expectations that are in place:
Exam schedule days are reported to the DPI as official hours of instruction. Teachers will convene their classes and students will attend. The teacher has discretion over the academic content of the exam day periods.
A student or teacher may be excused for illness, an emergency, or an unplanned conflict that can’t be resolved. Teacher should notify the principal and his administrative assistant, in the event of an absence that can’t be avoided. Parents must call the attendance office to excuse a student.
All assessments are written face-to-face and in our building.
Should a teacher choose to give an exam that covers the entire semester, that exam may count up to 20% of the final grade and not more.
Each semester administration will announce a deadline by which all final grades must be submitted. The grade deadline is firm.
An excused student who misses a unit test or semester exam administered during an exam period may attempt to take the exam at a different time in concert with the teacher. However, expectations #3 and #5 remain intact. If he or she is unable to write the unit test or exam, the teacher will determine a semester grade from the work and assessments that have been recorded during the semester.
A student who does not attend an exam day period in which a unit test or semester exam is administered and who has not been excused will receive a 0 for the assessment.
Students and their families should not ask to be excused from exams to travel, take vacation or any other reason that can be avoided with planning. Subsequently, they should not ask for an exam to be scheduled at a time other than the exam day.
Despite the previous expectation, students and families seeking an exemption are inevitable. Requests for an exemption are sent to a panel consisting of the academic dean, the director of student services, the principal, and the student’s school counselor who will grant or deny the request.
