Errors Prove Costly in Loss to Greendale

Four unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth helped Greendale come from behind to hand the Vikings their first loss of the season, 8-7, on Tuesday afternoon.

Jack Olson singled in Gavin Vrana with the game's first run in the top of the first inning. But, in what proved to be an unfortunate foreshadowing, the Panthers took advantage of a Wisco error in the bottom of the inning to even the score at 1 apiece.

Still, things looked good through five-and-a-half innings, as RBIs from Mason Ruh and Carter Raabe, a three-run home run from Vrana, and a solo shot from Colin Olson helped the Vikings go in front 7-4. But things came unraveled in the bottom of the sixth, as Greendale took advantage of two Wisco errors, a walk, and a hit batsmen to score four times on just one hit - a two-run double that gave them the lead for the first time at 8-7. The Panther bullpen made the lead stand up, retiring the Vikings in order in the seventh inning to hand them their first defeat of the season.

The loss somewhat dampened a big day at the plate from Vrana, who went 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored to power the Vikings seven-run, 10-hit attack.
