Vikings Walk Off Bulldogs in Nightcap

West Allis Central stole a heartbreaker in game one of Thursday's doubleheader. Four runs in the top of the 5th had the Bulldogs poised to do the same in game two.

The Vikings refused to let that happen.

Maggie Johnston's walk-off sac fly capped a four-run rally that brought Wisco back and gave them a 6-5 win and a split of the doubleheader.

The Vikings led 2-1 after four innings and needed only to retire the side to capture their third victory of the week. But four Central hits and two Wisco errors pushed across four runs and put the Bulldogs just three outs away from a sweep.

They would come up one out short.

Back-to-back doubles from Alyssa Kieselhorst and Kimmie Wandschneider started the inning and trimmed the lead to 5-3. Wandschneider moved to third on a groundout and scored on Melissa Tonn's single up the middle. Leah Pinnow jumped all over the first pitch she saw and ripped a triple to right field to bring Tonn home with the tying run. That brought up Johnston, who worked the count to 2-0 before lifting a sac fly--her second of the night--to right to win the game for the Vikings.

Johnston's game-winning RBI also gave her the victory on the mound, where she pitched a complete game, giving up three earned runs and striking out a pair. Pinnow went 3-for-3 in the game (and 4-for-5 in the doubleheader) with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the offense.

The Vikings cap their busy week--five games in four days--by hosting Greendale at Rainbow Park on Friday. First pitch is set for 4:30 PM.
