Vikings Win Second Straight Walk-Off

The Viking softball team continued its flair for the dramatic with a second consecutive walk-off victory, this time topping Greendale 3-2 at Rainbow Park on Friday. Maggie Johnston once again provided the winning run, this time in unusual fashion, as she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Wisco finished with just two hits and struggled for much of the game to get anything going on offense. Evah Pinnow singled in the bottom of the 5th for the Vikings' first hit, but came around to score on two groundouts and a wild pitch. That run got the team on the board, but they still trailed 2-1 heading into their final at bat.

Kimmie Wandschneider led off the 7th with Wisco's second and final hit of the game. But it would be enough - thanks to a little help from the Panthers. Melissa Tonn reached on an error, and both runners then advanced on a wild pitch to put runners on second and third with nobody out. Evah Pinnow grounded to the shortstop, who came home with the throw, but was too late to nab Wandschneider, who scored the tying run. Leah Pinnow was walked to load the bases, which brought up Johnston. One day after lifting a sac fly to right for the winning run, she took a pitch off the left ankle to bring Tonn in from third for the win.

Besides scoring the winning run, Tonn also earned the victory on the mound, striking out five while giving up just two earned runs in a complete game performance.
