Late Rally Comes up Just Short in Opener

Opening Day saw the Wisco baseball team drop a 4-3 heartbreaker at South Milwaukee. The Vikings trimmed a 4-1 deficit to 4-3 in the top of the 7th inning, but couldn't capitalize with the tying run in scoring position and two outs.

Logan Abramowski singled home Isaiah Johnston with the game's first run in the top of the 2nd, and Wisco held a 1-0 lead when senior Mason Ruh exited after throwing two scoreless innings. But the Rockets scored an unearned run on a passed ball in the 4th and tacked on three more runs in the 5th (despite getting just two hits in the inning), thanks to a pair of walks, a hit batsman, and an error.

Johnston and Ethan Muma drew walks in the top of the 7th and came around to score on Eddie Rynders' two-out double. But the host Rockets were able to strike out the next batter to end the game.

Ruh gave up just one hit and struck out four in his two-inning stint. Rynders had two of the team's three hits and a pair of RBIs. Tyler Danko was the pitcher of record, taking the loss in relief.

A box score and game replay is available here. The Vikings host Greenfield on Wednesday at the Rock Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 4:45 PM.
