Vikings Grab Dramatic Win in Major League Setting

Playing at American Family Field was bound to be a memorable experience no matter what. The Wisco baseball team made sure it was unforgettable. The Vikings scored three times in the 7th inning to overcome a one-run deficit and claim a 5-3 victory over Arrowhead. The team has now won three straight games.

Wisco got on the board first in the top of the 4th inning. Ryder Derouin and Lucas Oswald drew walks to open the frame. The Warhawks threw away Mason Ruh's ground ball, which allowed Derouin to score and Oswald to advance to third. Isaiah Johnston's squeeze bunt with one out brought home Oswald and made it 2-0, Vikings.

Arrowhead pushed across a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 4th and then took a 3-2 lead on a pinch hit, two-run single in the bottom of the 6th. But Wisco had the answer. Ethan Waldenmeyer reached on a two-base error to lead off the 7th and Justin Pontow drew a one-out walk. After a pair of hard-hit foul balls, Tyler Danko delivered the big blow, a double off of the left field wall to score both runners. Oswald provided an insurance run by singling in Danko with two outs, and the Vikings went to the bottom of the inning up 5-3. Danko made the lead stand up, getting out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam by inducing a fly ball to shallow left and then striking out the next batter looking to end the game.

Ruh pitched three scoreless innings, striking out 5 and allowing just 2 hits. Oswald had a single and a walk in four plate appearances and Danko picked up the win in relief.

The Vikings travel to Oconomowoc on May 20 for a 5 PM game at Roosevelt Field.
