Vikings Top Oconomowoc in Extras

The Wisco baseball team picked up its fourth straight victory and produced some late-inning heroics for the second consecutive day, knocking off Oconomowoc 6-5 in 8 innings. The Viking victory snapped the Raccoons' 11-game winning streak.

The first four runs of the game belonged to Wisco. Senior Tyler Danko drove in a run in the 1st with an RBI groundout, and a trio of underclassmen - Ethan Muma, Eddie Rynders, and Logan Abramowski - drove in runs in the second to put the Vikings up 4-0.

The Raccoons scored twice in the 3rd and once in the 4th to narrow the lead to one. Back-to-back doubles from Danko and Ryder Derouin in the top of the 5th gave the team a little breathing room, but Oconomowoc pushed across a run in the bottom of the inning and scored again in the 6th to tie the game.

Neither team could score in the 7th, but the Vikings broke through in the 8th. Mason Ruh led the inning off with a single and moved to third on a two-out error in right field. Rynders took advantage of the extra out, singling to shortstop to drive in Ruh and put Wisco up 6-5. After shutting down the Raccoons in the 7th, Ethan Waldenmeyer repeated the feat in the 8th, picking up the final three outs to seal the victory.

Rynders led the offense with a 3-5, 2-RBI day at the plate. Derouin was 2-4 and drove in a run, and Ruh went 1-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Waldenmeyer picked up the victory on the mound, striking out two and allowing one hit in two scoreless innings of work.

The Vikings travel to New Berlin Eisenhower on Friday for a 4:45 PM game.
