Baseball Tops Lions in Rain-Split Game

The Viking baseball team knocked off New Berlin Eisenhower despite rain forcing a suspension of the game on Friday. Wisco scored 8 runs after play resumed on Saturday morning to defeat the Lions 12-9.

Lucas Oswald got things started for the team in a big way on Friday, sending a grand slam over the left field fence in the top of the 1st to put the Vikings on top 4-0. But Eisenhower sent 10 men to the plate in the 3rd inning to score 6 runs and take the lead before the rain halted play in the top of the 4th.

The teams resumed play early on Saturday, and Wisco wasted no time tying things up with RBIs from Eddie Rynders and Logan Abramowski. But the Lions retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring one run on a single to center to go up 7-6. The Vikings put runners on second and third with one out in the fifth, bringing up Isaiah Johnston in an RBI situation, and the sophomore delivered, lining a 1-2 pitch to right field to score both runners and give the team a lead they would not relinquish. Jake Ross's single plated Johnston two batters later, and the team tacked on insurance runs in the 6th and 7th to seal the victory.

Johnston's single capped a 3-4 day at the plate. Fellow sophomore Logan Abramowski also had a three-hit day, as did freshman Jake Ross. Oswald finished 2-4 with 4 RBI. Tyler Danko picked up the win in relief, allowing just 1 earned run over 4 innings on Saturday.
