HP Spotlight - Bethlehem

Micah Ricke
Get to know Kristen Miller, a first-year House Parent in Bethlehem House, a bit better . . .

Why did you choose to become an HP?

"I have always wanted lots of kids. God provided a unique way of making that possible."

What is one thing that makes your house unique?
"Bethlehem House has the fewest scholars within the home, but this offers many opportunities to bond with each "daughter" in a very special way."

What is the greatest joy of HPing?
"My greatest joy is showing these girls that no matter what happens in life, God is here for them and He loves them. And, I love them, too."

What is the greatest struggle of HPing?
"The greatest challenge I find is allowing these kids to fail. I want them to always be successful, but it is very important for them to make their own decisions and experience the results, whether good or bad."

What do you do when your kids are at school?
"I teach K-8 Spanish three days a week; substitute teach when I am able; take online classes through MLC; mentor a new teacher; and I'm a weekly volunteer at a Therapeutic Riding Program on my day off."

What Bible verse or story has become clear and meaningful to you as a HP?
"'The lives and faith of Job and Joseph have impacted me greatly. At seasons in life when it seems all is lost, I take a step back and watch God's amazing love unfold before my eyes. It is pure joy to serve Him."
