WLHS will be using a new Finals Week format this semester in place of traditional exam days. This trial provides teachers with flexibility in determining when to administer their final assessments—whether a cumulative exam, unit test, project, or presentation—during the week.
Students will learn from each of their teachers when their final assessment will take place. Because teachers may schedule assessments on different days, some students may find themselves with multiple finals on the same day.
Students have received the following guidance: If you are currently scheduled to have more than four cumulative exams on any day during Finals Week and have concerns, please contact your homeroom teacher. Homeroom teachers will work with administration to address individual situations as needed.
To help balance the week, teachers who are administering regular unit tests (not cumulative exams) have been encouraged to give those by Wednesday, December 17, as most cumulative exams are anticipated for Thursday, December 18.
Students are expected to attend each school day during Finals Week. Students missing exams on the scheduled days could result in a failing grade for the course. If illness prevents students from attending exams, they will be required to arrange a time to come into school on Friday, December 19 to take the missed exams.
Students are reminded that they are NOT permitted to leave during commons or free periods during finals week.
We appreciate your flexibility as we implement this new format designed to support student learning while reducing end-of-semester pressure. If you have questions, please reach out to the WLHS office.
