As winter weather and early darkness set in, we want to reinforce important safety expectations for all students traveling to and from campus. Students should never cross in the middle of the road or through parking lot entrances. These are high-risk areas with limited visibility for drivers. Instead, students must use the sidewalks and designated crosswalks and remain alert to traffic at all times. Your partnership in reminding students of these expectations helps keep everyone safe.
We also want to restate our WLHS After School Policy.
Students who are not involved in an after-school activity must leave the building by 3:10 p.m. Increasingly, we notice many students walking to Starbucks and Pick ’n Save, often gathering in their parking lots, to hang out after school. We strongly discourage this behavior, especially when students are not customers, as it places unnecessary strain on our community partners and poses additional safety concerns.
Our requests of parents:
Please arrange for your student who is not in an after-school activity to be picked up by 3:10 p.m. Waiting in the building for a later event or game is not permitted.
If immediate pickup is not possible, contact one of our assistant principals to reserve a seat in a supervised area where your student may wait safely until transportation arrives.
Have an honest conversation with your student about after-school plans. Students should not wander the building or spend extended time at nearby businesses - Pick 'N Save, Starbucks, and others - if they are not customers.
Students without a ride should secure permission from an assistant principal to wait quietly in an approved location.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe, respectful, and well-supervised environment for all Wisco students.
