WLHS Represented at WELS National Leadership Conference in Chicago
Wisconsin Lutheran High School was well represented at the WELS National Conference on Lutheran Leadership in Chicago, with 24 WLHS students and 13 staff members attending this national event focused on discipleship, evangelism, heritage, and Lutheran schools. Throughout the conference, students and staff participated in worship, keynote presentations, and breakout sessions centered on Christian leadership and the mission of Lutheran education. The experience provided meaningful opportunities for attendees to grow in faith, strengthen leadership skills, and connect with fellow WELS students and educators from across the country.
WLHS also contributed directly to the conference programming, as Rev. Dr. Ken Fisher and Principal Landon Zacharyasz led a breakout session titled “The Great Commission in Lutheran Schools: Nurture, Outreach, and School Growth.”
Their session explored the important balance Lutheran schools face as they pursue healthy enrollment growth while intentionally maintaining a strong Lutheran identity and culture. Participants engaged in discussion on how schools can support both nurture and outreach through ministry philosophy, school-church partnership, and practical strategies that align with the Great Commission.
Mrs. Sarah Proeber ('07), Director of Alumni Relations, led a session on The Power of Deep Connection: Engaging Women by Design. This practical breakout equipped leaders with simple, adaptable ways to move beyond surface-level fellowship into deeper, mission-centered relationships. Campus Pastor Phil Huebner ('99) led a session for the teens attending. This session explored the perspectives, challenges, and faith lives of teenagers within the WELS synod. Rev. Dr. Michael Berg's session was titled Politics in the Pews: Living in Two Kingdoms. In this session, Dr. Berg explained how God’s two-kingdom doctrine teaches that while church and state overlap in the believer’s life, they must not be confused, and that faithfully proclaiming the gospel—rather than advancing political agendas or cultural battles—is the church’s true calling in a polarized world.
We are grateful for this opportunity for our students and staff to learn, serve, and represent WLHS at a national level—and to return encouraged to lead faithfully in their vocations here at Wisco.
