Despite trailing 3-0 early on, things looked good entering that half-inning thanks to a six-run fifth inning for Wisco. Alyssa Kieselhorst's sac fly scored Evah Pinnow with the Vikings' first run, and after an infield single by Kimmy Wandschneider, Maggie Johnston cleared the bases with a triple to left that tied the game at 3-3. Melissa Tonn followed with a single to score Johnston; later in the frame Leah Pinnow added an RBI groundout and Julia Treichel scored on an error to give Wisco a 6-3 lead.

The Vikings' stretched their lead to 8-3 in the top of the sixth when Kieselhorst scored on a passed ball and Tonn added another run with a sac fly. But things came unraveled in the bottom half of the inning. A one-out error gave the Pirates an opening; they pushed that runner across to trim the deficit to 8-4. Things still looked good when Kieselhorst gunned down a runner at the plate for the second out. But a bases-loaded double cut the lead to 8-7, and that was immediately followed by a two-run home run to left to put Pewaukee on top 9-8. Wisco advanced the tying run to second base on two different occasions on the seventh, but was unable to bring her home.

Tonn and Johnston each drove in a pair of runs to lead the Viking offense. Sam Thompson was the leading hitter with a 2-5 performance at the plate. Wandschneider and Reagan Derouin drew three walks apiece.
