Softball Triumphs in High-Scoring Affair

The Wisco offense took advantage of 16 walks by Wauwatosa West pitchers to outscore the Trojans 12-8 in a road non-conference game on Monday. The Vikings needed just seven hits to record 12 runs and their seventh victory of the season.

Both teams scored two runs in the 1st inning and four runs in the 2nd inning. Kimmie Wandschneider plated the first run with a double to score Reagan Derouin and Melissa Tonn came home on a wild pitch to put the Vikings on top 2-0. After West tied the score in the bottom half of the inning, Wisco sent seven batters to the plate before an out or a hit was recorded in the 2nd. Five batters walked and two were hit by pitches, which brought three runs in, and Evah Pinnow added one more with a sac fly to center to make it 6-2, Vikings.

After the Trojans again tied the score in their half of the 2nd, the Vikings went ahead for good with five runs in the top of the 4th. With one out and the bases loaded, Maggie Johnston singled to right to score Wandschneider with the go-ahead run. Julia Treichel then drew a bases loaded walk to bring in a run, and with two outs, a wild pitch scored Pinnow from third and a two-run single from Derouin brought in Treichel and Alaina Tomczak to make it 11-6. Johnston make the lead stand up on the mound, striking out six in a complete-game effort.

Johnston, Treichel, and Alyssa Kieselhorst each drew three walks from the Trojan pitching staff. Treichel, Derouin, and Tonn came around to score twice each, and Derouin led the team with 2 RBI.
