Three Big Innings Lead to Victory

The Wisco softball team fell behind early at Rainbow Park. They didn't stay down for long. After falling behind 1-0 in the 1st, the team put up a baker's dozen over the next three innings en route to a 13-3 victory over Greenfield in 5 innings.

Kylie Bilitz got things started in the bottom of the 2nd with a two-run single to give the Vikings a lead they would not relinquish. Katie Meyer and Melissa Tonn drove in runs, and Wisco got another run in on an error and led 5-1 after two innings.

Greenfield scored twice in the 3rd to narrow the lead to 5-3, but Meyer put an end to any thoughts of a comeback in the bottom half of the inning. After two singles and a walk loaded the bases with two outs, the sophomore crushed a 3-1 pitch over the fence in left field for a grand slam that made the score 9-3, Vikings. The team tacked on four more runs in the 4th inning to go up by 10, and Tonn shut the door in the top half of the 5th to bring the game to an end.

Meyer finished 2-3 at the plate with 5 RBI. Bilitz drove in a pair and scored three runs. And Tonn went the distance, striking out 5 and allowing just 2 earned runs in 5 innings of work.

Wisco hosts Pius XI at Rainbow Park on Thursday, May 20.
