One-Run Loss Snaps Winning Streak

The Viking baseball team battled back from a 4-0 deficit, but it wasn't quite enough, as the team saw its 9-game winning streak snapped by a 4-3 loss to Pius XI at The Rock.

The Popes scored single runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings and added two more in the 5th. Meanwhile, the Wisco bats couldn't get anything going. The Vikings were held hitless through the first five innings. They finally broke through when Eddie Rynders led off the 6th with a triple and scored when Ethan Dunn reached on an error. Later that inning, Jacob Ross singled in Ryder Derouin to cut the deficit to 4-2. In the 7th, with the team down to its last out, the Vikings looked to have tied the game when Tyler Danko doubled with two on and two out. But the would-be tying run was waved off when the runner was called out on appeal for missing third base.

Rynders led the offense with 2 hits, 2 runs, and a walk in 4 plate appearances. Ross worked two scoreless innings in relief of Lucas Oswald. The team travels to Whitnall for a 4:00 PM game on June 4.
