Vikings Roll in Regular Season Finale

The Wisco baseball team ended the regular season on a high note, downing Milwaukee Lutheran on Monday afternoon. After three tight innings, the Viking bats blew open a tight ballgame, turning a 2-2 tie into a 12-2 victory.

Eddie Rynders got things started right away for Wisco. He tripled to lead off the bottom of the 1st and scored when the throw in from center field was errant. Isaiah Johnston's second-inning double brought in Logan Abramowski to make it 2-0.

The Red Knights would score twice in the 3rd to tie the game. But the Vikings struck back. Mason Ruh brought in Lucas Oswald with the go-ahead run, and two batters later, Johnston singled to bring in Ruh with an insurance run. Wisco would remove all doubt in their next two at-bats. Oswald, Ruh, and Jake Ross all brought runners home in a three-run 5th, and five runs in the bottom of the 6th triggered the ten-run rule. After the Vikings scored runs on two singles, an error, and a passed ball, Abramowski drove in Oswald with the final run of the game.

Nathan Sievert started the game and struck out three in three innings. Rynders threw three scoreless innings of relief, fanning seven. Oswald and Ryder Derouin each went 3-4 at the plate and Johnston went 2-3 with a pair of RBIs.

The Vikings earned a first round bye in the WIAA playoffs. They await the winner of Thursday's New Berlin West-Catholic Memorial contest, and will face them on Tuesday, June 15, in a 4:30 game at the WLC fields.
