Vikings Defeat #4 Brookfield Central

The Wisco basketball team gritted out its second victory over a top ten Division 1 team in the span of a week with a 71-66 victory over visiting Brookfield Central on Tuesday night. The win over the Lancers, ranked #4 in this week's poll, came seven days after a win over top ten Arrowhead and is the team's fifth consecutive victory over all.

Landon Key helped stake the Vikings to an early lead. He scored 11 first-half points to help Wisco run out to a 26-10 advantage after nine minutes. But the Central defense stiffened and the offense came around. They closed the half on a 16-5 run to narrow the gap to 31-26 as the teams headed into the locker room.

The Lancers kept the pressure on in the second half. They narrowed the lead to two before Jamiir Allen came on. After a two-point first half, he gave the team a basket and two assists to provide the Vikings some breathing room at 40-33. BC came back though, and tied the game at 46 with just over 8 minutes remaining. Allen answered with a 3 to put Wisco back on top. When the Lancers tied it again at 51 a few minutes later, he responded by hitting from downtown on back-to-back possessions to make it 57-51 Wisco with 5:29 to play. Two minutes later, Central cut it to a three-point game, but MJ Townsend found Josh Knueppel in the corner, and the junior's third triple of the night gave the Vikings a 62-56 advantage with three minutes remaining. Baskets and free throws from Allen and Kon Knueppel kept the Lancers at bay down the stretch.

Allen scored 22 of his team-high 24 points in the second half and added five rebounds and three assists. Kon Knueppel's double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) included several big boards and two key free throws in the closing minutes. Key scored 11 points before leaving with a sore ankle, Josh Knueppel had nine points to go along with three assists, and MJ Townsend gave a sterling effort on the defensive end and finished with five rebounds and a team-high four assists.

More stats are available here. The Vikings are now 11-1 on the season. They travel to South Milwaukee on Thursday night for a Woodland Conference crossover game.
