Pirates Slip Past Vikings on Diamond

The Viking baseball team dropped a tight contest with defending conference champion Pewaukee, falling 4-3 on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th.

The Pirates broke the ice with an unearned run in the bottom of the 1st, then extended their lead with a pair of runs in the 6th. Down to their last three outs, Wisco rallied. Will Hotchkiss led off the top of the 7th with a double and later scored on an error. Jaxon Raabe was hit by a pitch, Zach Adams singled, and Logan Abramowski brought them both in with a base hit to center to tie the game at 3-3. But Pewaukee strung together a single, a hit-by-pitch, and a walk to load the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning, and a sac fly to right field brought in the winning run.

Adams and Abramowski paced the offense; each of them picked up a pair of hits at the plate. Eddie Rynders gave up just one earned run in 5.1 innings on the mound; he allowed two hits and struck out four. The Vikings square off with the Pirates again on Wednesday. Though Wisco will be the home team, the game has been moved to WCTC to take advantage of better field conditions.
