Softball Sweeps Doubleheader: Game 1

The Wisco softball team improved to 8-2 on the season after sweeping a doubleheader from Pius on Tuesday afternoon at Kulwicki Park. The Vikings, ranked #9 in the state in Division 2, won the first game 14-8 and the second game 7-0 in five innings.

Game 1 saw Wisco jump out to a 7-1 lead after three and a half innings, only to see the Lady Popes storm back to knot the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the 5th. Both teams plated a run in the 6th to send the game to its final inning tied at eight apiece. That's when the Viking offense exploded for six runs. Tabby Fromm got the scoring started with a two-run single to center to give Wisco the lead. After Eden Rader scored on a Pius error, Sofia Schroeder's double to left plated two more runs; she would later score on another Pius error to make the score 14-8 in favor of the Vikings. Schroeder retired the side in the bottom of the inning to secure the victory.

Schroeder picked up the victory in the circle, striking out four in a complete game effort. She also drove in a team-high three runs and scored three times as well. Fromm went 2-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI. Chloe Koschnitzke, Emily Buch, and Kenly Frey each also drove in two runs apiece.
